about

bagatelle means trifle. a composer may use this terms as something of a disclaimer, but it is usually used to indicate work that's somewhat light, and not too demanding of either the composer or the listener. each bagatelle in this series was written in one sitting, with the exception of #'s 12 & 13. this was a limitation i imposed on myself to get things going because without limitations you can tinker with things endlessly. the whole work is titled "the 12th street bagatelles" because a friend who lived at my old house on 12th street one day asked me to write a piece of music without using an instrument for help, which we would then try out on his new keyboard. #1, the andante in C is what resulted from this challenge and it took about an hour to write. the next day i decided to write another piece under the same conditions and try to continue writing one piece a day until i had traveled around the circle of 5ths and arrived back at C. this small album is the result of that process. i hope you'll take a listen, and if you like the pieces, purchase them either individually or as the whole album. the pianist in these recordings was V Panicker since i am not a competent pianist, and the recording was engineered by me and is ultimately an amateur recording. i'm hoping you'll pay more attention to the notes i've chosen than the quality of the recording. thank you
